The opening reception for the fifth annual 91´«Ã½ Art Show, an art contest and exhibit celebrating water, took place on Thursday, February 1 in the 91´«Ã½ Student Center.

The three renowned judges for the contest were Sandra Boynton P’05, Agnes Gund GP’16,’18,’20,’22, and Craig Starr. First prize went to Wendy Costa for her digital infrared photograph titled “Innisfree Waterfall.” Second prize went to Colin McLain P’22,’26,’26 for his oil on canvas painting titled “Walk Out.” And, third prize went to 91´«Ã½ alumnus John Atchley ’61 for his stretched inkjet photograph on linen titled “Great Falls.”

We received a remarkable 70 submissions for the art show from local and regional artists. The final 24 pieces that were entered in the contest and exhibit were selected blindly by three established jurors, as were the judges’ top three selections prior to the opening reception. With such talented artists and beautiful artwork in the exhibit, the selections were not easy to make!
In addition to pieces submitted by local artists, a number of student artwork is featured in the gallery space. First place prize for student art went to Sejin Kim ’19 for her colored pencil on paper drawing titled “WaterFetch.”

91´«Ã½ would like to extend special thanks to trustee emeritus Sam Posey P’97’01 for his vision in creating this special event. In addition to Sam, 91´«Ã½ trustees Anna Traggio P’16’18’20’22 and Darren Winston P’19’20, and Sam’s assistant, Shari Marks, also deserve special recognition for working hard to create and assemble a remarkable evening to celebrate the arts and 91´«Ã½.

The artwork will be on display and for sale in the Student Center until March 2.
